"The observation of temporal processes leads to the conclusion that intelligences other than human are operating on a far larger scale than the human mind can grasp and that this must be postulated to account for the course of events. The thesis can be called that of the intelligent guidance in history. It postulates an evolutionary sequence, but rejects the belief that this sequence can be accounted for by universal laws operating by blind chance, which is the only alternative to intelligent intervention."
